Balkanschimmen: audiovisual play
Balkanschimmen, or “Balkan Shades”, is an audio play about the Bosnian War in the first half of the '90s. The story follows a young Dutch journalist as she journeys through the scarred cities and countryside of Bosnia, and meets the people that live within this demolished world.
The idea for the show was to completely immerse the viewer in the visuals, so the viewer was surrounded by screens left, right, and in front of them.
The play was made for primary school children to educate them about the conflict, with the different characters in the story being voiced by high school students. More than 350 children viewed Balkan Shades in the end.
